Kathmandu, January 19, 2025 – The Mumbai Police have arrested a suspect in the recent attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan. The accused, identified as 30-year-old Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, is believed to be a Bangladeshi national who illegally entered India with the intent of committing robbery.
According to Mumbai Police Deputy Commissioner Dixit Gedam, the incident occurred in the early hours of January 16 at Khan’s residence in Mumbai. The accused reportedly entered the premises with a knife, intending to rob the actor’s home. Fortunately, Saif Ali Khan and his family were unharmed in the attack.
Details of the Accused
Preliminary investigations revealed that Shehzad had illegally crossed into India and assumed the alias “Vijay Das” to blend in. After arriving in Mumbai five to six months ago, he took up work in a housekeeping agency while planning criminal activities. His belongings, recovered by the police, indicated his Bangladeshi origins.
DCP Gedam stated during a press briefing, “The accused entered the house with the intention of robbery. He was apprehended shortly after the incident. We have strong evidence pointing to his Bangladeshi nationality, and further investigations are underway to confirm his identity and motives.”
Legal Proceedings and Investigation
An FIR was registered against the accused, and he has since been taken into police custody. Authorities are now probing whether he was part of a larger network of illegal migrants involved in criminal activities.
Growing Concerns Over Security
This incident has raised questions about the security of high-profile individuals in Mumbai, as well as the broader issue of illegal immigration and its potential links to crime. Saif Ali Khan, a prominent Bollywood actor, has not yet commented publicly on the matter.
The Mumbai Police have assured that the investigation will be thorough and that appropriate measures will be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
This case highlights the need for stricter border controls and enhanced security measures, as criminal elements exploiting vulnerabilities pose a risk not only to public figures but also to society at large.
