Reopening of Druk Amitabha Monastery
After a five-year closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Nepal’s Druk Amitabha Monastery has reopened to the public. To mark the occasion, the monastery’s kung fu nuns performed martial arts demonstrations. These nuns, part of the 1,000-year-old Drukpa lineage, promote gender equality and women’s empowerment through their training and community engagements.
Investigations have revealed that some Nepalese orphanages have been involved in child trafficking, deceiving children into believing they are orphans to attract foreign donations. Organizations like Hope and Homes for Children are working to reunite these children with their families and reform the system to prevent such exploitation.
