Nepal Communist Party (Unified Socialist) Launches Movement for Employment and Good Governance

The Nepal Communist Party (Unified Socialist) has launched a nationwide movement focused on addressing unemployment and establishing good governance in Nepal. Party leaders announced the campaign as a strategic initiative to redirect political discourse toward substantive economic and social issues rather than power politics.

In a comprehensive document released on March 1, the party outlined its vision for transforming Nepal’s economy and governance structures over the next decade. The campaign titled “Movement for Employment and Good Governance” aims to prepare the groundwork for socialism through systematic development of national capital.

“Our republic is caught in a vicious cycle. When politics loses its agenda, economic life becomes painful, leading to social conflicts and sectarian animosity,” said Ghanashyam Bhusal, coordinator of the party’s Central Movement Coordination Committee, who signed the announcement.

The party proposes concrete plans across multiple sectors:

  • Agriculture: Guaranteeing fair prices for farmers’ produce, providing subsidies for seeds, fertilizers, irrigation, and electricity, along with technical services and insurance
  • Industry: Protecting domestic industries with dedicated hydroelectric projects and tax benefits, particularly for industries using Nepali raw materials
  • Tourism: Improving transportation infrastructure and service quality with an aim to attract 400,000 tourists annually within ten years
  • Education: Making public education free and quality-based from elementary to higher education within a decade
  • Healthcare: Ensuring all Nepalis have access to basic healthcare services at the local level within five years

The movement particularly targets corruption, which the party describes as pervasive in government administration, the judicial sector, and politics. It proposes establishing a powerful Property Investigation Commission to examine the assets of all individuals who have held public office.

The campaign will proceed in phases, beginning with press conferences and committee discussions in early March, followed by dialogues with organizations and individuals at central, provincial, and local levels. The party plans to submit memorandums to the federal government too,  and to provincial governments on April 5, and local governments from April 19-22.

The second phase of the movement will be announced on April 25, according to the document.

The Nepal Communist Party (Unified Socialist) had previously conducted a “Socialist Awakening Journey” last year, which this new campaign builds upon as the party attempts to distinguish itself in Nepal’s complex political landscape.
