First National Bamboo Conference-2025: Pioneering a Green Economy in Nepal, Pre Event Progrogram

First National Bamboo Conference-2025  pre event held today,  on 6th to February, 2025 at Himalayan Hotel Kupandol, Lalitpur.

Diktel, Khotang  Nepal is set to host its First National Bamboo Conference-2025 from February 27 to March 1 in Diktel, Khotang, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s journey toward a sustainable and green economy. The event is being jointly organized by the Ministry of Forests and Environment (MoFE), the Forest Research and Training Centre (FRTC), and Green Bamboo Creation Pvt. Ltd., in collaboration with Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality and other key stakeholders.

Under the theme “Bamboo: Growing Green Economy, Sustaining Our Future,” the conference will bring together policymakers, researchers, entrepreneurs, and environmentalists to explore bamboo’s potential in economic transformation and ecological restoration.

Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank Advocates for Bamboo-based Green Economy

Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari has emphasized the importance of bamboo in fostering an environmentally friendly economy. Speaking at a program ahead of the conference, he stressed the need to promote bamboo as a sustainable alternative to traditional resources. He also highlighted that hosting the conference in Diktel, rather than a metropolitan center, reflects an inclusive approach to Nepal’s economic transformation.

Former Minister Ganesh Shah echoed similar sentiments, underlining bamboo’s historical and cultural significance in Nepal. Dr. Rajendra KC, Director General of FRTC, emphasized Nepal’s potential in the global market through the “Himalayan Bamboo Brand”, given the country’s 81 species of bamboo, contributing to 19% of the global bamboo coverage.

Pradeep Dangal, from Green Bamboo Creation Pvt. Ltd., noted that bamboo’s rapid growth and eco-friendly properties make it a viable alternative to plastic products. Diktel Municipality Mayor Tirtha Raj Bhattarai stated that the conference would host representatives from government agencies, 100 forest user groups, 50 universities and research centers, and 100 students.

Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality, the largest local level in Khotang, has actively promoted bamboo products for job creation and income generation. Mayor Tirtha Raj Bhattarai and Deputy Mayor Bishan Rai have replaced imported furniture with bamboo-made chairs and tables, setting an example of sustainable resource utilization.

The conference’s slogan“Where there is bamboo, there is life; where there is life, there is bamboo” – reflects its fundamental message.


International Participation and Research Development

The three-day event will feature international participants, experts, and researchers. According to Dr. Rajendra KC, the conference will be a stepping stone toward branding Nepal’s bamboo internationally. KP Bhattarai, Chairperson of the National Bamboo Research and Promotion Centre, stated that the conference was initially scheduled for October but was postponed due to natural disasters.
