Nepal’s Political Crisis Deepens Amid Rival Protests

Kathmandu police have intensified arrests following violent pro-monarch protests in Tinkune on Friday. Among the 51 detained are RPP leaders Rabindra Mishra and Dhawal Shumsher Rana. The demonstrations, countered by a massive pro-republic protest, saw 4,000 monarchists clashing with 35,000 republic supporters.

The unrest follows the former king’s provocative February 19 statement, fueling calls for monarchy restoration. While republicans held a peaceful rally, monarchists turned violent, leading to two deaths and several injuries. The government faces mounting criticism for corruption, instability, and failure to address public grievances, fueling dissatisfaction and extremist narratives.

With Nepal’s 2015 Constitution under strain, political instability and foreign influence threaten the federal democratic republic. As frustration grows, the nation’s future remains uncertain.
