Practical Approach Emphasized in Quality Plant Production and Nursery Management Course
Mustang, April 1 — The Temperate Horticulture Development Center in Marpha, Gharapjhong Rural Municipality-2, is currently conducting specialized training for agricultural technicians from 16 districts across Nepal. The three-day training program on “Quality Plant Production and Nursery Management,” which began on Sunday, combines theoretical knowledge with practical exercises.
The training targets deputy technical assistants and technical assistants from federal, provincial, and local levels of government. According to Padmanath Atreya, Head of the Center, this type of training is conducted annually for agricultural technicians and farmers from various districts.
“The Center provides training on quality plant and seed production of fruits and vegetables for agricultural technicians,” Atreya explained. The program includes observation of various methods and technologies used in the propagation of temperate fruits and vegetables.
Atreya further detailed that participants receive practical instruction on managing mother plants and rootstock plants for quality seedling production, as well as establishing and managing nurseries.
Diverse Participation
The training has attracted 18 agricultural technicians from 16 districts. Palpa and Gulmi are represented by two technicians each, while Banke, Kavre, Dhankuta, Morang, Jhapa, Parbat, Manang, Lalitpur, Mugu, Western Nawalparasi, Chitwan, Dhading, Syangja, Sunsari, and Jajarkot have each sent one representative. Lakshman Budha, a technical assistant at the Center, is coordinating the training.
Hands-On Approach
The program places greater emphasis on practical exercises rather than theoretical knowledge. “We’re taking participants to gardens and nurseries to provide field training in an easily accessible manner,” Atreya noted.
The Center had invited applications for the training through an online platform, reflecting its commitment to modernizing agricultural training methods while maintaining focus on practical skills development.
This initiative represents an important step in strengthening Nepal’s agricultural sector by enhancing the technical capacities of agricultural professionals across the country. The knowledge gained will help improve fruit and vegetable production techniques in various ecological zones throughout Nepal.
