Nepal Decides to Aid Myanmar Earthquake Victims, Will Deploy Army Medical Team

Government Approves Humanitarian Assistance Including Medical Equipment and Relief Supplies

Kathmandu, April 1 — The Government of Nepal has announced its decision to extend humanitarian assistance to Myanmar in response to the devastating earthquake that struck the Southeast Asian nation on March 28.  The decision was made during a Cabinet meeting held on Monday, underscoring Nepal’s commitment to international solidarity in times of crisis.

Following the meeting, government spokesperson Prithvi Subba Gurung stated, “In light of the widespread devastation caused by the earthquake in our friendly nation Myanmar, the government has decided to provide humanitarian aid. Relief materials, including essential medical equipment, medicines, and other necessary supplies, will be dispatched with contributions from both government agencies and the private sector.”

The Cabinet has authorized the Ministry of Finance to allocate necessary funds to facilitate the procurement and transportation of aid. Furthermore, the Nepal Airlines Corporation has been entrusted with the responsibility of airlifting the relief materials to Myanmar.

As part of its humanitarian efforts, the government has also approved the deployment of a specialized medical team from the Nepal Army to assist in providing emergency medical care to those affected by the disaster. The team, equipped with essential supplies and medical expertise, will be transported to Myanmar via a Nepal Army aircraft.

This initiative reflects Nepal’s deep-rooted commitment to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, drawing from its own experiences in earthquake response and recovery, particularly in the aftermath of the devastating 2015 earthquake. By extending aid to Myanmar, Nepal reiterates its dedication to fostering regional cooperation and standing in solidarity with nations facing natural calamities.
